Corporate Responsibility at DHL
Corporate Responsibility is a core element of our corporate strategy. Acting responsibly as a company means we treat our employees, the environment, the interests of society and the capital that has been entrusted to us in a manner that is respectful and sustainable. Only in this way can we be successful in the long term.
As a part of the Group’s Corporate Responsibility Strategy, DHL in India has undertaken several initiatives across the country in alliance with local and international non-governmental organizations.
Partnership between Teach For India and DHL
In November 2010, we launched a partnership with Teach For India to help children in low-income communities gain access to a better education. Teach For India enlists outstanding university graduates and young professionals to teach for two years in schools based in areas with high educational needs in India. Teach For India belongs to the global Teach For All network that currently involves partner organizations in 23 countries.
Besides financial donations to support the program’s implementation and expansion, our employees are engaged in local volunteering activities. This year, we have organized two successful donation drives – PC and laptop, and stationery – for the Teach For India schools. As part of Global Volunteer Day 2011, DHL & Blue Dart employees in India have also volunteered their time for Teach For India schools across Mumbai, Delhi and Pune. Volunteers organized drawing competitions for about 2500 children in 3 schools in Mumbai, Pune and Delhi. In Delhi, our employees also organized cleanliness drives in the schools, prepared educational charts for the classrooms and read stories to the students.
Recognizing the talents of the Teach For India teachers (referred to as Fellows) and to unlock their potential, a Leadership Development Program has been organized for about 40 Fellows. The four-day program offers structured training that will better equip the Fellows with leadership and interpersonal skills suitable for their teaching stints as well as their subsequent professional careers with corporations.
Under the motto “Living Responsibility”, the partnership with Teach For All is part of the GoTeach program that supports education and fosters equal access to education worldwide.
